Wheaton's Own Baseball Greats
For everyone who loves baseball, the Center for History's baseball "game" extravaganza will be the highlight of the spring. The roster for the evening includes 10 major league players who have lived in Wheaton: Herb Adams, Don Bollweg, Mike Joyce, Chet Lemon, J.C. Martin, Dave Otto, Milt Pappas, Lee Pfund, Jimmy Piersall, and Sy Sutcliffe. The game plan is to honor their baseball accomplishments through big screen images and tall tales of their days on the field. A special exhibit of the honorees memorabilia, including bats, gloves, jerseys, photos, programs, and baseball cards will be on display to showcase their great careers.
It promises to be an exciting evening of everything baseball. In keeping with the theme, the dinner and all the festivities will be held at the iconic baseball bistro, Harry Caray's in Lombard on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
The evening will begin with a pre-game social of mingling with the honorees and their family members while bidding on fabulous baseball items. Many of the silent auction items have been donated by major league baseball teams and include balls signed by Fergie Jenkins, Ernie Banks, Ryne Sandburg, Carlos Zambrano, Mark Ellis and Dusty Baker, plus a Cubs flag signed by Ryan Dempster, and Pirates jacket.
The Star Spangled Banner will signify batters up and later in the evening the 7th Inning Stretch will be sung by Harry Caray. Guests should shed their bleacher bum attire and be ready for a grand slam good time. Each inning of the "game" will highlight one of the honorees. No one loses at this "game" but there will be a lot of cheering for each of these players who helped make baseball an American pastime.

The Gary SouthShore RailCats will host a gala Meet the Team Luncheon, Monday May 10 at the Radisson Hotel in Merrillville featuring Hall of Fame Cubs right-hander Ferguson Jenkins as the keynote speaker, and tickets for the event are on sale now.
Every RailCats player in camp with the team along with coaches and front office staff will be on hand at the luncheon, giving fans their first chance to get a look at the 2010 team while enjoying a delicious catered meal. The Meet the Team Luncheon will run from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and be held in one of the Radisson's spacious ballrooms. The first 30 tables purchased for the luncheon will include one of the RailCats players or coaches, and full tables can be purchased now for $500.
Limited single tickets are available for the Meet the Team Luncheon at $50 for the general public and $40 for 2010 RailCats season ticket holders.
Tickets can only be purchased by calling 219-882-2255 and seating is limited. The RailCats will open their exhibition season later that night at 7 p.m. against the American Association's St. Paul Saints, and all tickets purchased for the Meet the Team Luncheon include a ticket to that night's game.

The tour will take place aboard a customized motor coach emblazoned with the logo "Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour" and the phrase "Touching Down in Your Community." One scheduled stop will be made during the day in each area at a site to be determined. At the visit, tour members will have the opportunity to mingle with fans. In addition to the planned stops, surprise stops will be made as the schedule allows.
The evening tailgate parties will be held in each city from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with a flavor of famous Lambeau Field tailgating. A local non-profit organization will host each party which will feature food, question-and-answer sessions and autographs. Footballs autographed by each tour member will be given away as door prizes at each event. Tailgate party tickets will cost $25, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the hosting organization.

Shake the Lake 2010 will feature music by Grammy Award winner Darrius Rucker and country artists Matt Kennon and Lewis Copeland. US 99's 'Ramblin Ray' will emcee the evening with proceeds from ticket sales benefiting the Lynn Sage Foundation and Susan Komen Foundation.
Tickets for this event will start at $150 (for a limited time) and include a 3 hour open bar package from 8pm-11pm and passed appetizers.
Presale fanclub tickets go on sale Wednesday, April 7th at 10am, and tickets to the general public go on sale Friday, April 9th at 10am at Ticketmaster.com or at Joe's.
